Erewhon is a boutique grocery store with a big mission to make healthy, pure, nutrient-rich foods and products available to all and to inspire the community to eat better, eat less and live longer. The Studio City location opened in December 2021 at 2833 Ventura Boulevard as part of a $100 million redevelopment of the Sportsmen’s Lodge site, at the corner of Ventura Blvd. and Coldwater Canyon Ave. Gensler served as architect for the new upscale shopping district.
RDC is engaged in a multi-store rollout program for Erewhon in Southern California and provided architecture for Erewhon Studio City. The complex design included a variety of solutions needed to adapt to the urban footprint of the building, such as the routing of additional plumbing and other infrastructure to serve both the market and cafe. Whether new construction or adaptive reuse each store must meet the needs of Erewhon’s urban customers, in locations that may not have traditional grocery specifications, such as loading docks or large parking garages, while also maintaining a local approach. While each store is unique, there are elements that RDC keeps as a thread from location to location. Standardized lighting, finishes, concrete floors, and the sign program are among those things that are consistent for the brand.
