Located between the Financial District and the burgeoning SOMA region of San Francisco, this 35,600 SF luxe fitness club is a health and wellness destination amenity for the city.  Equinox Beale Street is situated on a prominent corner within a 23-story, 660,000 SF, 1960’s office tower designed by SOM and recognized as a historically significant building. It has been extensively renovated and achieved LEED Platinum. Between Mission Street and Beale Street the project is in the heart of the Salesforce global headquarters urban campus.

The design prioritized the articulation of the club’s ‘social spaces’ through the introduction of custom crafted elements; from handmade to machine fabricated features. The entry sequence highlights a dynamic tri-layer, white oak wood screen that defines the concierge and the tech lounge beyond. The depth effect of the multi layered screen is achieved by computer numerical control (CNC) fabrication technique to carve the solid wood panels into a dynamic spatial pattern.

The design blends ‘hi-tech’ and ‘high-touch’ amenities in response to adjacent tech giant headquarters of this urban site. The ‘tech bar’ iconic portal wrap is crafted as a continuous ‘C’-channel steel frame encasing weathered composite panels and integrates wireless smart phone charging into the work surface for the tech savvy clientele. The elixir bar and guest services suites are defined with walls clad in ebonized, end cut wood as a bold backdrop. The rich blackened wood showcases the contrasting custom designed and fabricated light fixture composed of bending bronze rods and hand blown glass that weaves the entrance and guides visitors into the tech lounge.
The lounge is the hub of the luxury fitness club which is anchored by a modern hearth, a monolithic solid honed titanium marble fireplace.

The first level welcomes the urban streetscape into a contrasting ‘rest bit’ space amenities with concierge, elixir bar, tech lounge and athleisure boutique. The second level clusters the large and expansive fitness and wellness spaces including weights, cardio, locker, showers, sauna and spa. The third level is a collection of intimate boutique fitness environment offering Pilates, cycling, yoga and barre that share a Zen meditation space enveloped with a warm palette of wood rods surrounding the ceiling and walls.
